Gestation
1. Online shop for a virtual 3d human baby model online.
2. Import the pre-made model into a 3d software (such as Maya) and bind the model onto a “skeleton” to make a posable virtual baby.
3. Pose the virtual baby into appropriate positions respecting limitations presented by vegetable size, shape and the moulding process.
4. Cut the virtual model into two halves for the purpose of creating moulds.
5. Translate the virtual 3d models into physical sculptures using rapid prototyping methods such as the additive process of 3d printing and/or the subtractive process of CNC (computer numerical control) milling.
6. If rapid prototyped models prove too weak for the vacuum-form process, go back and create negative moulds of the models instead. Then, use them to cast stronger resin “positives” from the prototyped moulds.
7. Create clear plastic vacuum-form moulds from positive halves of the baby sculptures.
8. Grow some vegetables. (I will begin with varieties of summer squash known for rapid growth and maturation.)
9. Place the moulds around immature vegetables forcing them to grow into baby shapes.
10. Document the entire process through photography, journaling, surveillance and time-lapse video.
11. Pickle the resulting vegetables (regardless of outcome) for preservation and display.
